Although they have different styles, these two bands were good friends and played together often in the 1990's. This is a lovely document of the DIY punk spirit and scene that was in Houston during the time. I am proud to be a part of this document.
Sore Loser was a melodic/punk band from Houston, Texas which was active from 1995-2000. Members were Kevin Richardson (guitar/vocals), Alex Arizpe (drums) and Matthew Juarez (bass/vocals). Sore Loser were inspired by the DIY punk ethics and the burgeoning post punk, emo, pop punk styles of music that were of the time. Influenced by Jawbreaker, Zoinks!, Los Crudos, Dropdead, Descendents, ALL and Jimmyeatworld you can hear elements of these in their music. This was the last recording of theirs before calling it quits after the death of Alex's father.
These three went to join other regional acts such as Beast, The Tie That Binds, The John Sparrow, Business Machines, Crime Wave, Loose Nukes and Dream Shake.
Cedar of Lebanon was a highly underrated screamy emo/hardcore band from Houston, Texas which was active from 1996-1998. They had another single released on Act Your Age Records and songs for a full length LP that never saw the light.
Members of Cedar went to join other regional acts such as The Guns Of August, The John Sparrow, Birds Over Buildings, Holder, Black Congress, The Fatal Flying Guillotines, Defend The Ghetto, Powdered Beatles, The Tie That Binds.
This was recorded during the same session in 1995 at Milagro Studios in Houston, Texas and limited to 500 copies. All the front side of all copies are individually drawn with pencils by the members of both bands - no copy is alike. Rare and beautiful.
